CCCS Biology, Week #4

Week 4 Biology

Objectives:
·         The student will become familiar with the cell theory as an organizing principle of biology and will be able to briefly recount the history of the development of that idea.
·         The student will be able to recount the major organelles in animal and plant cells and tell the purposes for them.

Objectives:
  • ·         The Student will be able to recall key terms from chemistry, including: atom, molecule, proton, neutron, ion, bond, etc.
  • ·         The student will describe the concept of reaction energies and how catalysts function.
  • ·         The student will become familiar with the basic kinds of organic molecules and how a semi-permeable membrane functions.
  • ·         The student will be able to describe the molecular distinctions of the four major kinds of biomolecules and their function in living things.
  • ·         The student will describe the inter-relationships of proteins and nucleic acids, specifically with regard to protein synthesis and DNA replication
